Special Audit Results Being Sent to Knox County Board Members

Members of the Knox County Board will soon receive a document that has been the subject of both much anticipation and much controversy.

Knox County Board Chairman Allen Pickrel has provided WGIL News with an e-mail he's sent to all County Board members, indicating that each of them will soon receive a copy of the Special Audits conducted of the financial records of the Knox County Sheriffs Department and State's Attorney's Office.

Pickrel says in the e-mail that board members should receive the document by Monday or Tuesday next week, and after reviewing them, they'll be asked to consider whether the documents should be made public.

That vote, Pickrel says, is expected to take place at the June 25th County Board meeting.

The audits of finances of the two department under former Sheriff Jim Thompson, and former State's Attorney, now Judge Paul Mangieri, were made last year as the result of allegations of financial mismanagement by current State's Attorney John Pepmeyer.

Pepmeyer himself was the target of sexual harassment allegations.
