Congressman Touts new Foreign Trade Reform Plan

A local Congressman says a new plan leaders in his party have proposed is one that he supports because it's the kind of thing the 16-hundred people let go when the Galesburg Maytag plant closed would like.

17th District Democrat Phil Hare says he support what's called the Trade Reform, Accountability, Development, and Employment Act, also known as "TRADE."

Speaking Wednesday on a conference call with reporters, Hare says he supports trade, and good trade deals, and he says this bill makes sure that happens.

The Galesburg native and Rock Island resident says he believes trade deals should be fair for both sides, not just one. Hare says he resents arguments made during recent debates over proposed trade deals that if you can't support one trade deal, you can't support any.

He says nothing could be further from the truth.
