State Money for Ramp and Lift-equipped Vehicles

The state is awarding millions of dollars for ramp and lift-equipped vehicles that are intended to improve rural public transportation across Illinois, including locally.

Governor Rod Blagojevich says 4-point-5 million dollars will pay for 77 of the paratransit vehicles. That includes about 1-point-2 million dollars and 23 vehicles in IDOT Region 3, which Knox and Warren counties are part of.

Blagojevich says the grants will allow rural public transportation agencies to upgrade their paratransit vehicles to accommodate the needs of their passengers and get them to their destinations safely. The city of Galesburg is getting about 48-thousand dollars for one vehicle, while Warren County is getting nearly 144-thousand dollars for three vehicles.

The funding is allocated through an application process administered by IDOT's Division of Public and Intermodal Transportation, which is responsible for supporting public and specialized transportation efforts throughout the state. The vans are used to provide transportation for medical and other appointments, shopping, and employment.
