Tourism Good for Illinois
Illinois tourism is apparently benefiting from the poor national economy, citing close-to-home vacations as one reason why the economic impact of tourism in 2008 is a record $30.8 billion. State tourism officials presented the numbers Wednesday morning at the Dana-Thomas House, a state-owned historic site in Springfield.

Illinois Bureau of Tourism director Jan Kostner and the bureau's local tourism manager, Jan Kemmerling, say the state is holding its own because of the bureau's consistent ad campaigns, and because of interest in Abraham Lincoln and President Barack Obama.

The 2009 ad campaign is built around the theme of "There's a Getaway for That," and includes a number of online components: advertising as well as Facebook and Twitter.
