Ag Officials Expect State Fair, DuQuoin Fair To Take Budget Hits
The Illinois State Fair could be a little less fun depending on what's happening with the state budget between now and August. The fiscal year begins July 1, and Gov. Pat Quinn has not signed the budget the House and Senate sent him -- one which funds many programs only halfway.

State agriculture director Tom Jennings says he expects the fair in Springfield as well as the Du Quoin State Fair -- and many other department programs, such as extension -- to be affected. While the Grandstand acts are expected to bring in money, Jennings says other, free entertainment may have to be canceled, and maintenance of the 360 acres and 177 buildings at the fairgrounds in Springfield could lag.

Jennings says all lawmakers have a role to play in the budget, and he's not interested in blaming anyone in particular for the problems.
