More Transit Dollars May Come to Galesburg
More money to help fund Galesburg's public transportation services will likely come the city's way if the Galesburg City Council has its way Monday night.

Aldermen are expected to approve, as part of their consent agenda, applying for a transit operating assistance grant totaling almost $300,000. City officials say the money is federal dollars administered by the state. They say the state Department of Transportation has notified them that they are eligible for the grant, and the funding amount is about three-percent more than the city got last year to help pay for the Galesburg Transit and Handi-Van systems.

Aldermen must approve a resolution in support of the grant, or the city won't get the money.

Because it's a part of the council's consent agenda, there may or may not be discussion on the item before a vote is taken.

The City Council Monday evening is also expected to take up a proposed memorandum of understanding with the Knox County Health Department that, city officials say, will allow the two to share resources when responding to a public health emergency in the city.

Aldermen will convene at 7:30 Monday night inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
