Illinois Crop Planting Almost Done -- Finally
Despite an incredibly wet spring, farmers have nearly the entire corn crop in the ground. The USDA reports that 96 percent is in the ground, which was the percentage in the ground at this time last year, but it's still below the five-year average of 99 percent.

The average height of the corn across the state is currently 10 inches, which is well below the five-year average of 25 inches. USDA Crop Statistician Brad Schwab says at 10 inches, most of the emerged corn crop won’t be too negatively affected by small pools of standing water.

Schwab says soybeans are also coming along nicely. About 73 percent of the crop statewide is planted, compared to 72 percent at this time last year, and 92 percent for the five-year average.
