Multiple Social Services May See Budget Cuts
The chief of staff to Gov. Pat Quinn is warning about the drastic cuts that are set to hit July 1. Jerry Stermer says a "50 percent budget" would leave community-provided services out $5 billion and state-provided services out $4.2 billion.

Speaking to over 100 community leaders and community based service providers, Stermer highlighted five agencies that would suffer from a lack of new state revenue.

Stermer says the Department of Human Services, Department of Children and Family Services, Department on Aging, Illinois Student Assistance Commission and the Illinois Department of Public Health would see the most cuts.

Stermer also pointed out that cuts would cost $2 billion in matching federal funds and force the layoff of more than 10,000 state workers.

The governor is expected to meet with legislative leaders Wednesday, in hopes of negotiating a budget that includes new state revenue.
