New Contract For Monmouth's Police And City Administrator
Monmouth's City Administrator says recent negations with the city's police union were some of the easiest the city likely has ever faced.

The Monmouth City Council Monday night voted to approve a four-year contract for the city's police force, with three-percent pay raises the first and last years of the contract, and two-and-a-half percent raises the middle two years.

City Administrator Eric Hanson tells WGIL negotiations between the city and officers couldn't have gone any easier.

"We actually settled that a couple months ago. It took us all of two hours to reach an agreement. The gentlemen down at the police department were very cooperative and they understood the position of the city and worked with us. Obviously, at the same time, we were building a new facility for them."

That new police station opened last month. Hanson says it was also helpful that aldermen have decided to fully fund police and fire pension funds.

That's not the only contract aldermen approved Monday night -- they voted in favor of a three-year contract extension for Hanson -- it's one that, city officials say, includes a three-percent raise which will give Hanson 80-thousand dollars a year.

The Monmouth City Council also approved all of the mayor's appointments for the coming year -- Hanson says they're no different than before, with Brad Ziegler remaining Police Chief, and Jim Conard the FIre Chief, among others.
