Quinn, Legislative Leaders Meet Wednesday -- Special Session Looming?
Legislative leaders and Gov. Pat Quinn will meet Wednesday at 10 a.m. in another effort to hammer out a state budget that includes funding for state- and community-supported social services.

Quinn stopped short of saying he would call a special session of the Legislature, but says he would like to meet with legislators in Springfield next week. He says he hopes to work out the logistics with leaders today.

Quinn has proposed an income tax hike to fill an $11.6 billion budget gap, but the measure received little support in the House on the last day lawmakers were in session.

Other ideas to raise revenue include legalizing video poker and a sales tax expansion to cover services and certain goods that are not currently taxed.

Quinn has said he is willing to work with leaders but won't specifically say what he would concede to win support for a tax increase.
