Gilson Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charge
A Knox County man has admitted to trying to purchase enough drugs to result in him facing federal charges.

Documents from U.S. District Court in Peoria indicate 39-year old Casey Kidwell pleaded guilty Tuesday to the charge of Attempt to Possess More than 500 Grams of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute. That was the only charge he faced, but a plea agreement worked out in the case has been sealed.

Kidwell was arrested in late-January after he allegedly tried to purchase $25,000 worth of powder cocaine in the parking lot of a hotel in East Peoria. Charges were filed in February.

A Drug Enforcement Administration affidavit filed in the case indicate Kidwell allegedly asked what turned out to be a confidential informant a number of questions about alleged marijuana and cocaine before indicating a willingness to make the purchase.

A search warrant executed after the attempted purchase at Kidwell's Gilson home allegedly turned up marijuana and cocaine, a digital scale, and $40,000 in cash.

Authorities say Kidwell has been involved for years in drug activities in Knox and Warren Counties.

A U.S. District Judge yesterday ordered a pre-sentence investigation be conducted prior to a scheduled sentencing on October first.

The case had been set for a jury trial next month.
