Knoxville City Clerk Resigns
A woman who has been a part of Knoxville government since the mid-1990's will be stepping away from her post effective immediately.

Knoxville City Clerk Peg Bivens announced Tuesday she will be stepping away from her duties as city clerk because she says it was apparent to her after Monday's city council meeting, that decisions were made by council members with so little regard for facts of the matter of rehiring Rick Pecsi to a full time officer position.

Bivens says it would have been a real challenge to continue working with the current council -- but nevertheless, she tells WGIL it hasn't all been bad times. "The last couple years have been great," Bivens said. "It's been a great council to work with. The morale among the city employees has been great A lot of positive things have happened, It's just so great when everybody all works together and can come to the council table and openly discuss things."

Bivens says she wasn't pleased that she was the one that actually had to create the motion to rehire Pecsi. She says a motion that was that serious and seemed to be planned in advance should have been prepared in writing instead of her taking time away from the council meeting to prepare the motion.

Bivens says she just doesn't find joy in doing that form of work anymore and the Knoxville City Council will gather at a special meeting to appoint a new city clerk Thursday night.
