Ameren: Power Should Be Back by Friday Night, Early Saturday
An officials with Ameren's Illinois Utilities say they think the process of getting power back on to 41-thousand people who were left without it has gone well.

Ameren still had about seven-thousand in the dark as of earlier Friday morning, and spokesperson Victoria Bush says while the utility assesses restoration efforts as well, each individual outage presents its own problems.

Bush tells WGIL most of those problems are being resolved, but some residents will be in the dark for quite awhile longer.

"We hope to have customers back on, the majority of that seven-thousand, by late (Friday) evening, late into the Friday evening hours," Bush said. "There may still be some customers remaining Saturday morning. We will ask customers again to just remain patient with us. But we're there, and we're going to stay there until we get all the lights back on, weather permitting."

That's because another round of severe thunderstorms could possibly hit later Friday, and Bush says that could put restoration efforts back at square one if the storms are bad enough.

She says residents need to exercise caution if they're without power and are using a generator, as it could cause problems if electricity comes back on.

And if you're in the dark and don't have a generator, Bush says you should walk through your house and turn off anything you left on, in order to not to cause any electrical surges.

All in all, she says safety is priority number one.
