Monmouth Hospital Planning to Close Long-Term Care Facility
A local hospital that's part of a larger statewide group of medical facilities is closing one aspect of its operations in that community.

A statement issued late Friday indicates OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth intends to close its long-term care unit, pending approval by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board.

Holy Family CEO Donald Brown says in the statement that while such services are still needed, they won't be in a hospital setting.

The hospital doesn't say how many employees will be affected by the closure, but Brown says they will receive "fair and compassionate treatment" and are getting benefits and transitional services.

Brown says in the release that L-T-C-U administrator Susan Higbee and staff will make sure the residents and their families are taken care of, and officials will look to area nursing homes and assisted care facilities to determine how, and if, they can take on the unit's facilities.

Brown says the closure will allow Holy Family to improve its other services, which include in and out-patient care and clinic services.

He says the move will ultimately strengthen the hospital's presence in Warren and Henderson counties.

The closure is expected in September or October, depending on the I-H-F-P's approval.
