Galesburg Man Sentenced to Prison on Federal Drug Charges
A local man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in buying and selling cocaine.

Documents from U-S District Court in Peoria say 27-year old Gerald "Gary" Mahnesmith Junior received 200 months - or 16 and a half years - in federal prison late last week in a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty in January to one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.

Mahnesmith was indicted on the charge by a federal grand jury in June of last year after authorities alleged he bought cocaine from various individuals and helped to redistribute it.

He is to be on supervised release for eight years after he serves the prison term.
