Galesburg School Board Considers Random Drug Testing Monday Night
Student athletes in the Galesburg School District would be one step closer to having to be tested for drugs this fall if the District-205 School Board approves a policy to that end this fall.

The Galesburg School Board Monday night is expected to vote on policy that would allow for random drug testing. It's not clear what the policy would entail, except that district officials say it would include all athletic, extra-curricular, and co-curricular activities.

The board has been aware since at least last year of random drug testing being brought up, following its discussion at a board retreat.

Over two-thirds of those responding to a survey, the district says, approved of random drug testing. And district officials say approving board policy allowing for random drug testing is "a major step in executing a random drug testing program."

The District-205 board will also consider changes to the elementary and secondary codes of conduct when they convene at 7pm Monday at Lincoln School.

This would be the last meeting for outgoing finance chief Paul Woehlke, who starts Wednesday as the new superintendent of the Monmouth-Roseville School District.

Ousted former Peoria Schools treasurer Guy Cahill will take over. Cahill was put on administrative leave from that job in February according to published reports, and his contract was terminated soon thereafter.
