Ameren Offers Unemployed Power Bill Help
Customers of Ameren utilities who've been laid off this year could get help paying their power bills.

Ameren says it's dedicating $2.2 million to be distributed in the form of grants, to help its unemployed customers through the company's "Residential Unemployment Program."

Ameren spokesman Leigh Morris says the company realizes how many people have been hit by layoffs, as evidenced by the state's 10.1 percent unemployment rate - a 25 year high. "They could be eligible for a one-time grant of up to $300, which would be used to be applied toward a utility bill of theirs."

Morris says the money will likely run out fast, and he suggests that anyone who's unemployed act quickly to learn details about the program and apply.
