Separate Pet Project Capital Bill Passed Legislation in Final Hours
When state lawmakers were still at the Capitol in the first couple of hours of Monday, June 1, they passed a building and construction bill that gives them a lot to talk about back home: money for their districts. The final pieces of the $29 billion road, bridge, and school construction program included a half-billion dollars in pork projects for themselves and Gov. Pat Quinn.

The votes were unanimous.

Among the projects: $150,000 for baseball field lights in Shorewood in House Minority Leader Tom Cross' district; $50,000 for a firetruck in Rockford; and $400 million for a high speed rail project, requested by Gov. Pat Quinn. But those projects won't see the money yet, because Quinn says he won't sign the bill until he receives more money for operations.
