Future Of State Budget Up In The Air
Not even twelve hours after the House and Senate adjourned, the four legislative leaders were in Gov. Pat Quinn's office, talking about the near future.

The 2009 legislative session ended with only a half-way budget passed: Many agencies and programs stand to get only half the money Quinn proposed in his annual budget message in March. Two separate income tax proposals failed to gain enough support.

Quinn hasn't committed to signing either the budget bill or the capital bill on his desk. He and the four leaders did put a positive front on things when talking to reporters Monday afternoon.

Quinn said the state would have to notify service providers their money is about to run out, as the new fiscal year starts July 1. He was vague as to what he expects, and when he expects it, in a budget solution, though another meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Chicago.
