Tough Decisions in an Election Year
The head of Illinois' Democratic Party is confident heading into a summer of campaigning. Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) says Gov. Pat Quinn has done a good job since he succeeded the impeached Rod Blagojevich, and that he should be able to manage the state's troubled finances while also trying to win a full elected term.

Madigan does not foresee much problem from the Republican nominee, State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington): "I think the best thing for the Quinn campaign is the Brady campaign," Madigan said.

Madigan calls the coming weeks of testimony in the Blagojevich criminal trial "not a plus," but Madigan reminds people he is the one who initiated the impeachment and removal, and almost all incumbents will be able to capitalize on their votes to rid the state of Blagojevich.
