GOP Chair Analyzes Blago Trial
The Republican perspective on the Rod Blagojevich trial is one of moderated glee.

As governor, Blagojevich had his own cronies -- not folks necessarily with ties to the regular Democratic Party. But Illinois Republican Chairman Pat Brady says current Democratic office seekers had a chance to stand up to Blagojevich, but didn't.

"This activity started in 2003, so I think the more important question is, where were the Democrats that now seek higher office who supported Rod in 2006 and enabled him through this period?" Brady said. "I do believe that's the tie-in to the current people and the people who seek higher office, like Pat Quinn and Alexi Giannoulias."

Quinn, now governor and seeking lection to that office, Quinn, had a chance to stand up against Blagojevich, but in his 2006 bid for lieutenant governor, he said, "I have confidence the governor does the right thing all the time."

Brady acknowledges that at the ex-governor's trial, dirty laundry will be aired that's harmful to Democrats and Republicans, such as the convicted Stuart Levine and the suspected Robert Kjellander, but he says those represent the previous generation of Republicans.

Brady says that even though the Blagojevich trial can be used for political advantage by Republicans, it is a disgrace to the state, and as a citizen, he feels bad about that.
