Vendor Accused of Snack Cake Theft
NORTH AURORA, Ill. (AP) -- Kane County authorities have charged a St. Charles man with felony theft for an alleged scheme involving more than $10,000 worth of snack cakes.

North Aurora Police Lt. Scott Buziecki says 54-year-old Patrick Depirro was the Little Debbie snack cake vendor for a local grocery store and was responsible for removing items that were past their expiration date from the store shelves. The store would then get a credit for those items from the vendor.

But Buziecki says that from January of 2008 until earlier this week, Depirro would mark products in the store as though they had been sold, so the store was not getting its refunds.

Depirro was released on $10,000 bond Friday morning, and prosecutors did not know whether he had an attorney.
