High Winds and Heavy Rains Sweep Across Illinois
DECATUR, Ill. (AP) -- A group of showers and thunderstorms moving across central Illinois has caused wind damage, downpours and flash flooding.

The National Weather Service reported Saturday that wind speeds reached an estimated 50 mph in Chillicothe as the storms produced frequent lightening and heavy rainfall. Weather service meteorologist Dan Kelly says more than 2 inches of rain fell in two hours in Lincoln.

The weather service posted flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings. Forecasters say the storms were to last through Saturday evening.

Kelly says roads were closed because of high waters. He says several cars were flooded on Interstate 72 and Illinois 121 near Decatur.

The weather service says power lines were downed near the Peoria airport and two mobile homes were damaged near Niantic in Macon County.
