Blago Lawyer Ends Cross-Exam of Monk
CHICAGO (AP) -- A lawyer for Rod Blagojevich has ended his hammering cross-examination of a key prosecution witness, the ousted Illinois governor's former chief of staff.

Before ending his questioning of Alonzo Monk, an increasingly animated Sam Adam Jr. kept suggesting Monk had motivation to lie so he could spend less time in prison himself as part of a plea deal.

Monk has pleaded guilty to plotting to pressure a racetrack owner for campaign donations and is testifying in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.

Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to charges of scheming to get a big payoff in return for an appointment to the U.S. Senate seat that President Barack Obama left following his election and pressuring people for campaign donations.
