Israeli Official Visits Springfield
She's happy to explain Israel's position on its blockade to the Gaza Strip, but she'd rather talk about innovation. Consul General of Israel to the Midwest Orly Gil, in a visit to Springfield, says people are drawn to news of conflict in Palestine when they should be as interested in what she describes as the Israel that is a small but impressive economic engine.

Gil says many medical advancements and technological innovations have begun in Israel, such as cellular phone technology. She also says 15 Hebrew books are published each day in Israel.

As for the fighting, Gil says Israel is not in conflict with the people of Gaza, but rather the Hamas. She says Israel has eased its three-year blockade of aid and materials to Gaza so that food and medicine can be delivered, but products -- like iron -- cannot because it can be used to help transport ammunition. She says Israel has delivered 10 million tons of aid to Gaza.
