Spoon River Flood Warning at London Mills Until Tuesday
POSTED 9:52 p.m. 6/18/10, UPDATED 6:00 a.m. 6/20/10 Severe weather that moved through the area Friday afternoon and evening caused major flooding on Galesburg streets.

The city was deluged by nearly an inch of rain and hail in a short amount of time during an initial storm system that moved through around 2 p.m. and another that brought substantial rainfall just before 9:00 p.m. The rain continued into early Saturday morning. The National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for Knox County that expired at 4:30 a.m. A Flood Warning for the Spoon River at London Mills is in effect until Tuesday morning.

The NWS said around 10:30 p.m. that parts of Knox County had received more than four inches of rainfall Friday and Friday night, causing significant flooding - not just on city streets but also on rural roads.

Galesburg streets affected by the flooding Friday night included Monmouth Boulevard, West Main and Losey streets. There were also several others. Galesburg police responded to the flooded streets that made driving in certain spots impossible. The floodwater caused vehicles to stall, including at the Illinois Route 41 underpass south of Galesburg.

The streets were in much better condition Saturday morning.
