Assistance Still Availalbe for 2008 Henderson County Flood Victims
Henderson County was among the places hit hardest by the flood of 2008, and some people are still trying to pick up the pieces.

The Henderson County Health Department received a federal grant to help residents affected by the flood with things like food, gas and certain types of medical services. The grant won't last much longer, and people who've not received assistance but need it are urged to act now.

The health department's human resources director, Lynne Haase (HAAS), tells W-G-I-L residents were more concerned about their homes than their health during the flood.

"They were busy just trying to figure out where they were going to live, so a lot of things like routine dental check-ups and physical check-ups were put on the back burner...we're trying to help people get caught up with that," Haase said.

The grant also provides counseling services. "People having a lot of stress because of losing their homes and everything that they had," Haase said.

Food, closing and gasoline are among other items covered by the grant through vouchers.

Haase says the money runs out in September. People who lived in Henderson County during the flood and suffered losses because of it should visit the health department in Gladstone to determine their eligibility for assistance.
