Illinois Attorney General Warning Seniors Against Medicare Scams
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is again warning senior citizens to watch out for scams as the federal government is in the process of sending out checks to Medicare beneficiaries.

Madigan was joined with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a town hall meeting with senior citizens in Chicago. Both warned senior citizens to keep an eye out for scam artists claiming that seniors must provide their personal information in order to receive their $250 "doughnut hole" rebate check.

"With the rollout of the new health care reform law, scam artists will be devising new ways to take advantage of seniors. It is critical that Illinois seniors have the information and resources they need to recognize fraud and avoid it," Madigan said.

Madigan reminds senior citizens that checks are being mailed directly to Medicare recipients.

Medicare recipients should call 800-MEDICARE to report any attempt to solicit personal information.
