Patriot Guard Soon Coming to Knoxville for Big Meeting
A group of motorcycle riders local residents have seen plenty of times on both good and bad occasions over the last several years will be coming back to the area in a few months for what's being described as a huge meeting.

The statewide group of Patriot Guard Riders will be meeting in August at the Knox County Fairgrounds for their annual "Gathering of the Guard."

Gary Schrodt is the Illinois State Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders, and tells WGIL this gathering will be different than the four that were held in years past.

"They were basically just a meet-and-greet for people in the Patriot Guard to get together and hang out and see what's going on," Schrodt said. "Last year, when my wife and I attended and a couple other couples...she kind of suggested that we hold it in Knox County. The vision, for me, was to open this up to the general public."

Schrodt says vendors and other activities will be available, but mostly he says it's a chance for everyone to find out what the organization -- most known for their escorts of fallen local soldiers, and National Guard units who are sent out on deployments -- are all about.

It will be held August 13th through the 15th, and admission will be free.
