Galesburg Water Tower Gets Face Lift
Some much needed repairs are coming to the Fourth Street Water Tower in Galesburg.

City council members voted unanimously Monday night to approve a bid to repaint the tower as well as provide foundation, grout, and metal repairs.

First Ward Alderman Ken Goad and Public Works Director Larry Cox discussed the matter during the meeting.

Goad: "Approximately how many year will this rehabilitation last?"
Cox: "We're planning to inspect the tower regularly, like every three to five years, and then provide whatever maintenance is needed after that. We won't let it get in the shape that it's in now, again and plan to do repairs probably in five years. Probably more spot repairs at that time."
Goad: "So this was done how long ago, this major work?"
Cox: "We've done a couple patches, but it's never had this major work done."

The repair costs total more than $482,000 dollars.

In an unrelated matter, the council also approved a measure to establish a $7 million line of credit with Wells Fargo, as a type of back up should the state of Illinois not make timely payments to the city.
