Galesburg Awaits Enviromental Assessment for Wind Turbine Project
The city of Galesburg has been awarded a $500,000 dollar grant to construct a wind turbine to power the new water plant in Oquawka.

The grant, however, is contingent upon the city establishing there would be no significant impact to the environment.

City Manager Dane Bragg explained the requirement at Monday's city council meeting.

"In order to proceed with the $500,000 grant it is necessary to both complete and have the finding of no significant impact. This project is planned and budgeted and would be paid from grant proceeds that would be drawn from the grant we've received from the state and the federal government."

At Monday's council meeting, members approved a plan to hire a St. Louis Firm called Terracon to provide the environmental assessment.

The cost of the assessment is more than $52,000 dollars.

The city hopes the use of the turbine at the Oquawka plant will save money in the long run.

Members also voted to establish a seven million dollar line of credit with Wells Fargo Bank as safety net against unpaid state bills.
