Abingdon Police Arrest Five on Meth Charges
An odor detected by an Abingdon police officer on duty earlier this week is resulting in five arrests in connection to suspected methamphetamine manufacturing at a residence.

Authorities say three people who live at 6 East Jackson Street in Abingdon are facing charges of aggravated participation in meth production, using property to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of meth manufacturing materials. They are 36-year olds Laurie Helms, Mickey Huber and Shane Peck.

The home is located near the Abingdon Police Department. An officer early Monday morning reported smelling an strong odor coming from the residence and obtained a search warrant. Police say they found coffee filters, lithium batteries and other items typically used to make methamphetamine - along with meth residue - inside the house.

Officers arrested two other people at the residence: 44-year old Willis West of Galesburg and 24-year old Casey Goff of Avon. Police say the two face counts of participation in meth production and possession of meth manufacturing materials.

All five have made initial appearances in Knox County Circuit Court.

A judge set bond for Helms, Huber and Peck at $75,000 and $50,000 for Goff and West. Records indicate Goff and Peck are scheduled to appear in court with their public defenders Wednesday while the three others, who previously were appointed public defenders as well, are slated to be in court on Friday.
