District 205 Discusses Operation Achievement Plan
Galesburg School District 205 board members had a healthy discussion during a committee of the whole meeting Monday night.

Talk circulated around the district's Operation Re-Build Achievement: 20 Year Master Facility Plan.

The plan, and it's funding source - a county wide penny sales tax, was tabled during the last regular meeting.

A number of members felt the concept was good, but worried about key elements of the plan.

Assistant Super Intendant for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill tells W-G-I-L members just needed a better understanding of the thought process behind the plan .

"It was important for the board members, we felt administratively, to sort of go through the same experience the committee did in a rather condensed form. Taking basically eight months of work on the part of the committee and trying to fast forward it through a committee of the whole meeting."

The Board decided to have the committee who worked on the plan revisit some element Those include whether to rebuild Silas Willard Elementary School or improve the existing building, and examine the need for a new athletic field house.

Cahill says the next step now, is to approve the funding source for the plan. A special meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, to vote on the penny sales tax.

If the board approves the measure, it will be sent to the Knox County Clerk for certification and to be placed on the ballot for the November election.
