Lake Story Beach Reopens
POSTED 3:08 p.m. 6/24/10, UPDATED 1:24 p.m. 6/25/10 Lake Storey Beach, which was closed last week because of high bacteria levels, is open again.

Galesburg city officials say the Illinois Department of Public Health notified them Thursday that the swimming beach at Lake Storey can be reopened. The latest water samples met the state's standards for water quality.

Weather permitting, the beach will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lake Storey concessions, the water slide and boat rentals will also be open.

The state closed the beach June 18 because water samples tested too high for e-coli in both the shallow and deep samples. IDPH staff indicated recent heavy rains resulting in significant runoff from pastures could have contributed to the increased e-coli levels.
