National Railroad Hall of Fame Honors New Inductees
A yearly tradition during Railroad Days is to induct new members into the National Railroad Hall of Fame.

Two people will be inducted this year, Peter Cooper and Henry Morrison Flagler.

Executive Director Julie King says Cooper was a jack-of-all trades.

"The man ran for president at 85, he once held a corner in the glue market in the United States, he was the patent holder for what we know today a Jell-O. It's a diverse range of accomplishments, but what he is honored for in the rail industry is that he was the builder of the first steam prototype called the Tom Thumb."

Flagler, the other inductee and former partner of John D. Rockefeller, will be honored for buying and creating railroad infrastructure in Florida, which allowed the state to become a tourist destination.

The induction ceremony is Saturday at 10 A-M, in Seymour Library on the Knox College Campus.

A speech called, Ralph Budd and the Burlington Zephyrs, is also scheduled for Saturday, at 1:30 in Old Main. The presentation will include information and BNSF archive footage of the zephyrs.
