Murder Suicide Spans Creve Coeur and Peoria
CREVE COEUR, Ill. (AP) -- Tazewell County authorities say a murder-suicide that spanned both shores of the Illinois River was preceded by at least 13 years of domestic discord and complaints of abuse.

Police say 48 year old Bernell Alexander fatally shot his former wife, Suzann Alexander, Thursday night after a violent quarrel at a Creve Coeur Dairy Queen where she worked.

A pursuing customer and police chased Bernell Alexander across the river into Peoria, where he reportedly shot himself as officers tried to corner his pickup truck.

Tazewell County court records show the couple got together in 1990, but did not marry until 1996, a year before Bernell Alexander's first domestic battery arrest. A second arrest followed in 1998. Records indicated that Suzann Alexander obtained at least four orders of protection before their divorce in 2009.
