Brady Flips on Minimum Wage
The Republican candidate for governor is softening his stance on the minimum wage.

State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) still laments that Illinois' minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum, saying it makes the state un-competitive; but he doesn't want to talk about rolling back the state minimum if he's elected. He'd wait for the federal minimum to catch up with Illinois.

He says Gov. Pat Quinn is using the issue as a diversion. "Here goes the governor with another populist demagoguery point trying to distract people from his failures," he said at a press conference Tuesday in Chicago, after delivering a speech to the City Club of Chicago, a civic organization.

The governor says he's against a wage cut for workers making the least. The minimum wage rises on Thursday from $8 to $8.25 an hour. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour.
