Union Watching Quinn's Budget Cuts -- LIVE COVERAGE OF GOVERNOR'S ANNOUNCEMENT THURSDAY ON WGIL
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, or AFSCME, will be closely following Gov. Pat Quinn's announcement Thursday about budget cuts.

The state budget provides only about half the money necessary to fund state operations, and the state Senate adjourned without approving a nearly $4 billion borrowing plan for government pensions.

AFSCME spokesman Anders Lindall says Quinn's cuts will hit schools, health care, public safety and human services. Since the unions and the Quinn administration came to a settlement months ago banning layoffs or closing facilities, those cuts will likely hit contracted providers.

Quinn will make his budget address during a press conference Thursday at 10:30am. HEAR LIVE COVERAGE, AND INSTANT REACTION, ON AM 1400 WGIL, AND BY CLICKING "SPECIAL EVENTS AUDIO" ON WGIL.COM.
