Residents "Stunned" Over Peoria-Area Search for Stacy Peterson
It will become the stuff of legends. People who live near Kickapoo are stunned that the search for Stacy Peterson, who disappeared in October 2007, ended up -- at least briefly -- causing a search in the rural area.

Illinois State Police spent Friday night and most of Saturday searching the farm and wooded areas near Kickapoo Creek, even calling in an expert archeologist to help dig at a 10-by-10 foot area. But while state police declared the dig "depleted" early Saturday evening, local folks think police did find something.

One neighbor, William Carter, says he noticed an unmarked squad car at the top of the road to the Big Hollow Gun Club on Friday evening, but was stunned Saturday morning when he got a call from his hunting buddy, Bill Jones, about the search for evidence in the Peterson case. Jones, who has hunted on this land with Carter for a couple of decades, says it's shocking to think that the case "is so close to here."

Other neighbors say this has become the talk of the town, with everyone talking about it and hundreds of cars driving along Grange Hall Road, where cops used several cars to block traffic toward the dig site.
