"Looking for Lincoln" Close to Home
The love of Lincoln leads to tourism in Downstate Illinois, and tourism means money. The Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition is putting out new information -- in brochures and on its web site -- about the more than 200 places around Central Illinois where Lincoln lore is celebrated.

Hal Smith, the coalition's executive director, says he can come up with more than 50 additional sites, if the money is available. His coalition and the National Parks Service are working together on an Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area which, he says, will eventually reflect how the Lincoln story can be told "in a more compelling and vivid way."
