Weather Service: 15 Tornadoes Touched Down in Illinois -- Elmwood Included
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The National Weather Service says at least 15 tornadoes touched down across central and northern portions of the state Saturday night.

Meteorologist Kirk Huettl said Monday that the strongest was a tornado with 140 mph winds that touched down near Dwight before tearing through the town about 60 miles northeast of Bloomington.

Dozens were injured and homes and businesses were damaged. Gov. Pat Quinn plans a Monday afternoon visit.

Huettl said another tornado battered Elmwood, west of Peoria, with 130 mph winds. Damage was heavy in downtown but no serious injuries were reported.

Huettl says the tornadoes were confined to central and northern Illinois. They all hit between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The weather service forecast says more severe storms are possible Tuesday.
