Library Systems in for Bad Ending?
TINLEY PARK, Ill. (AP) -- The budget problems that all state-funded agencies have been experiencing are also having an impact in the library world.

Libraries are having to deal with long overdue payments from the state. And that's forcing some of the state's library systems to suspend services and others to make drastic cuts.

While most have heard of the state's money woes, some librarians were shocked when the North Suburban and Alliance Library Systems announced they were discontinuing services as of Friday.

Flossmoor librarian Megan Millen describes it as "45 years of tradition comes to a screeching halt."

Library systems were created by state law 45 years ago to encourage cooperation among libraries.
