National Guard Plans New Armory in Normal
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois National Guard plans to build a new $16.3 million armory on the campus of Heartland Community College in Normal.

Gov. Pat Quinn's office says the new armory will help the guard be better prepared to help with public safety.

The governor's office says the new armory will be the headquarters for the guard's 404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Construction is scheduled to start in January 2012 and be complete in two years.

The U.S. Department of Defense will pay 75 percent of the costs, while the state will cover the remaining $4.4 million.
