State Provides Loans to Tornado Victims
Governor Pat Quinn declared four Illinois counties disaster areas after tornadoes tore through parts of the state and that means loan money will be available to victims.

Illinois State Treasurer's Chief of Staff Robin Kelly visited Elmwood, a community affected by the storms, to talk about the available loans.

Kelly tells WGIL the state offers different types of loans based on need.

"The Disaster Recovery Loan Program, which can help businesses, residents, and farmers start building after disasters," Kelly said. "We have both a short-term and long-term program."

The short term loan is for people who have insurance, but need the money immediately, instead of waiting for a check from the insurance company. The long term loan allows people who are under-insured to pay back the loan, with interest, over five years.

Kelly says loans like this are available whenever disaster strikes and the governor declares a disaster area. To lean more about the loans, CLICK HERE or call 866-523-0641.
