Planning and Zoning Commission Approve Ordinances
Galesburg's Planning and Zoning Commission met Tuesday night to discuss some changes to the city's Development Ordinance.

Amending the size of residential accessory structures from 1,000 square feet to 2,000 stemmed from earlier discussion of the city council.

Planning and Zoning member Judy Guenseth, however, had some reservations about doubling the allowance.

"I think I voiced this concern at the last meeting, that I think when you're getting a garage that large, we're looking at people who are housing a business or have some other reason for having a garage that large, other than just to house a couple vehicles."

Dominic Michael, however, had a different take on the matter.

"I understand where you're coming from Judy, but for instance, myself I don't have very big garage and I have a fishing boat, just a jon boat, but if I want to park two vehicles and just have enough space for that, that would definitely exceed the thousand."

Michael suggested it could be a way to curb aesthetic problems for those without a fence.

The commission unanimously approved the changes, which also restricted the height of accessory structures to 18 feet and capped the number of them to three per lot.
