Quinn Deciding Which Vetos May Come
(IRN)-The job of sorting through the good bills and the bad ones of 2011 belongs to Gov. Pat Quinn. He says he is going to veto the so-called “Smart Grid” bill which, he says, is simply a "bonanza" for utility companies Com Ed and Ameren. He is critical of state Senate’s fast-tracking of that bill, giving it just a few minutes' committee hearing before it hit the floor on the last day of the session.

The governor said he is ill at ease with the budget bill and with the casino expansion bill as well. He promised to work with lawmakers to make the budget more palatable to him, but he did not say if that would involve vetoes, a special session, or both. And he says the gambling bill – five new casinos in the state, more gambling positions at existing casinos, slot machines at horse tracks, slot machines at Chicago airports, and year-round horse racing and slot play at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, is simply too big.

Unlike his criticism of Smart Grid, Quinn would not commit to vetoing the casino bill.
