Homeless Man Jailed for Battery to Police
A homeless man featured Friday in a Galesburg Register Mail article has been arrested.

The Galesburg Police Department tells WGIL Nigel Williams was arrested around 8:30 Friday morning.

Williams was allegedly sleeping in front of the Illinois Department of Human Services on East Main Street when police responded to the area to ask him to move on.

Williams apparently was uncooperative and a struggle ensued, in which the man got a hold of an officer's mace and sprayed it at the officer.

After the struggle and short chase, the 22-year old was apprehended and arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and aggravated battery of a police officer.

A court date is not know at this time. The officer received multiple cuts and bruises but otherwise was all right.
