Woman Arrested for Eight Gas Thefts
A Galesburg woman claims her boyfriend made her steal gasoline eight times in the last month from one local gas station.

Galesburg Police reports reveal that officers arrested 35-year old Karleen Kempf Saturday morning preliminarily on eight counts of theft.

Police were alerted to Kempf after an employee of Hy Vee Gas on East Main Street was able to get the license plate number off a white Saturn that pulled in Friday and left without paying.

Store Manager Brad Hopping told police that the same vehicle, always with a passenger in the car and in one instance with a child, stole gas between May 19th and Friday.

Kempf, when arrested at her Elm Street home, initially claimed she always paid for the gas with her debit card.

She later reportedly told investigators that she did steal the fuel, and that her boyfriend forced her to do it otherwise "he would get mad" and treat her poorly.

Kempf is in the Knox County Jail until at least Monday when she'll make an initial court appearance. Police say she has previous theft convictions.
