Special Session Coming, but When?
(IRN)-There’s talk of a special session of the Illinois legislature, but it seems that no one knows when that will happen.

It’s a good guess that a special session will be called this week, as many road construction projects will be forced to shut down on Friday due to a lack of legislation that allows funding for capital projects. State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago), the House majority leader, says she has heard that problems in the Senate held up the appropriations bill before the legislature adjourned for the summer, but she hasn't been told specifically what would be dealt with in a special session.

"That's the way it sounds, yes it does, but I'm not sure there's gonna be a change of action among House Democrats," Currie said.

If a Special Session is called, talk may also turn to a recently passed gambling expansion bill that has yet to be signed into law. The governor has said the bill is "top heavy" with slot machines at horse tracks and licenses for an additional five casinos. Key Downstate lawmakers predict the bill would die if the governor makes changes to it. Some lawmakers are now taking a second look at the bill.

"All I know is that State Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan) said that he's 'working on it' and State Representative Lou Lang (D-Skokie), the House sponsor said 'don't touch a hair of the head of my casino bill,' so I don't know," Currie said.
