Corn Growth a Little Behind Compared with Last Year
(IRN)-Corn, planted late in Illinois due to weather, is struggling to catch up.

Illinois corn is averaging 14 inches high, which represents five inches of growth over the past week, according to the weekly USDA crop progress and weather report. But the late start means it's still behind: Last year at this time, corn averaged 26 inches in height, and the five-year average is 19 inches.

Soybeans advanced over the last week from 53 percent emerged to 76 percent, which is slightly behind last year's pace, but ahead of the five year average.

Standing water is still a problem on some fields, with 26 percent of the state's farmers reporting surplus moisture.
